Aikido of San Jose

Fundraiser and 40th year celebration

Date: Sunday, Nov 15th, 2009
Place: Aikido of San Jose
190 Martha St
San Jose, CA 95112

Primary Purpose:

Aikido of San Joses power bill, which last year was in the thousands (low end) comes due in November. We share the bill with Richard Bunch sensei of Nikko Jujutsu and it covers half the buildings use. In a down economy and a slow year this is a serious situation for the dojo.

Secondary Purpose:

To honor Jack Wada's 40th year in Aikido. He started early October of 1969 while still an undergraduate at UC Santa Cruz. So his first aikido class was in the original field house at UC Santa Cruz 40 years ago sometime just past the 1st week of October.

Training:

12 noon to 1:30pm
1:45pm to 3:15pm
3:30pm to 5pm

Dinner:

There will be a light dinner of gourmet pizza, drinks, salad at 5:30pm

Music:

Jack will play trumpet accompanied by Dennis Kyne on electric guitar and possibly keyboard. There will be only a few numbers (requiring some semblance of attention) and most of it will just be jamming and spontaneous which will allow for socializing.

Donation:

Requested donation of $50 to cover the power bill. Please do not miss the event if you cannot afford the requested amount. See Jack. Likewise donations larger than that amount would be gratefully accepted. If you would like to make the donation in a tax deductible manner see Jack. If you want to make a donation but cant make the event, that would also help.

During a very busy time Lou Bermingham and Frank Silvey have graciously donated their time. As the event approaches, anyone else who would like to donate their time towards the event please contact Jack.

Attending will be Jack's original teachers, senseis Robert Frager and Robert Nadeau. Teaching will be senseis Jack Wada, Linda Holiday, Bob Noha, Betsy Hill (the first person in aikido that Jack met), Lou Bermingham, Frank Silvey, Mary McLean, and Harry Concepcion.

This event is not limited to current members of Aikido of San Jose. Members of the Aikido community with a strong history and connection to Jack are also welcome. Also, ASJ alumni (people no longer active who feel a strong historical connection) are also encouraged to come.
